Gatmek Robot by Spex84 Gatmek Robot by Spex84
I'm planning on doing a series of these, because they're so quick and fun. They're inspired by MaK and Team Fortress 2, among other things.

Cool design and I like the weight of the main body. The 'bob' on the texture is a great touch. Its interesting how the light/thin arm/legs change the feel impact of the bot.

we'd like to! maybe a couple of them attacking our hero?

would you happen to have a high-rez version of this image that you could email me? around 2000x1750+? dchang@sparkleworks.com

and if you have any other poses or angles on him, that'd be great too. highrez, lowrez, straight render without Pshop touchup, whatever.

Hmm, 'fraid I don't have a higher-rez image of that one. Sorry!

:ahoy: Inspiring! Neat l'il guy. I love the history in the battered look, obviously been thru a bit of the rough stuff.
What program did you use to create it? :sherlock:

Thanks :) I used 3d studio max 8 for the rough shapes, then I rendered it out with the basic light tracer/skylight, and edited the render in photoshop (added colors, textures, etc).

May I ask how many the polycont?

:iconspex84:
Spex84 Featured By Owner Jul 27, 2008
The polycount is, well, kind of high. The Gatmek is maybe 7500 tri. I have a lot of parts that aren't optimized at all.
These were done just so I could paint over them in photoshop, they're actually not UVW'd or textured!
If I get the urge to do them properly, as game art, then I'll probably shoot to keep them under 3000 triangles each.

very neat gatling . lovely designed!

the caps of the rocketlaunchers somehow make its rounded form not that readable anymore. maybe they are too much

Funny you mention that...my co-worker brought in an Ashley Wood art book this past week, and I feasted on that strange world of guns, gals, and robots. So I guess it must have influenced me as well :D

I'm influenced and inspired by just about anything and anyone.
It varies from month to month who I'm most influenced by.
But I enjoy sparth, craig mullins, scott robertson, vyle, ashley wood, MaK, Syd Mead, Ralph McQuarrie, Hawkprey, Paul Richards,Stephen Martiniere, Paperblue,Khang Le,Bengal,Keith Thompson,Michaelangelo, Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Monet, Nathan Fox, and basically everyone who has ever drawn or painted anything cool, including tons of people on DA.
As for artists you might not know, check out Bengal's site and go through his links. Guaranteed you'll find some new inspiration :D
