Docks by Spex84 Docks by Spex84
*EDIT* I've addressed some of the perspective issues that were pointed out in comments.
I think it's a little better now.

A painted-over thumbnail of rusting spacecraft in drydock.

There's some backstory to this world, but I'm not going to trot any of it out until I actually get some more art done :P

Seriously instant fav! Love those orange and blacks. I wish I could express more. The shapes and flow really has comfortable feel for the eyes. You know how to guide eye movements.

your design, presentation and render is too superb that i disregard any mistake.

Did u use a photo as a plate for this? While making concepts, what do u prioritize? shape over function? values and colors? or ur more go with the flow?

thx in advance :)

:)
I did not use a photo plate, but I did use a very rough thumbnail that I'd done in my sketchbook.
Ideally, I think composition is most important, with form and function following.
In practice, though, I tend to use a lot of random shapes to generate ideas and compositions--the problem is that such images tend to look equally random, without much function. A balance is best...

Good call, I'll make the adjustment. I've also noticed a lack of shadow that is making the buildings in the center a little escher-like, so I'll have to fix that.
So much for speedpainting, lol.

the perspective of the rusting spacecraft is a bit off-the one docked on the second docking thing. Pretty sick painting bro. xD

You may be glad to know that I've since fixed the perspective issues with the ships. :)

Haha, thanks. Yes, the perspective gets pretty lost near the horizon line. Of course, I could always just say that the ships are sitting crooked in drydock O.o

yeah :D
