Photo-hacking fun. I wanted to make a big effing hand-cannon.. basically a WW1 or WW2 aircraft piece cut down to sub-machine gun size...the kind of thing that a super-soldier type character might wave around in one hand whilst squishing enemy heads with the other.
As for the actual engineering of the thing...lol. Whatever.

Dude you have an effing awesome gun. If I ever make a video-game can I please use this gun in it?

What is that? A 1-handed .50 cal hand cannon? :D

Basically!

Why is it a .50 cal? You couldn't handle the recoil unless you were a Warhammer 40,000 space marine. Especially as a one handed weapon. Though a better application would be mount it on vehicles. Or use it as a LMG variant of the M2 browning .50 caliber. The operator could use it as an SMG.

FYI I've fired a .50 cal hunting revolver. Albeit with both hands, it was super loud, and there was so much recoil that I'd have very little chance of repeated fire to hit multiple targets, but still. If the gun had an arm brace and you had enough armor to withstand several hits, this could be used in combat. But yes it would work better as a mounted weapon. What would be very cool is if it had a retractable tripod that you could kind of fire into the ground at a moments notice to give you some stability.

As cool as a pop out tripod would be, you couldn't make it be too big. Otherwise it starts to mess with how you use the gun. Plus a 50. Caliber pistol cartridge and a 50. BMG cartridge are not the same thing. And this guy is talking of using a 60. Caliber cartridge. 50.'s already make people's arms hurt and can't withstand automatic fire without a tripod or have it mounted on a car or something. I don't think a 60. Is too practical.

Aaaaah. Okay, I agree. I hadn't taken into account the cartridge size. As for the tripod idea, I had imagined an unrealistic cellphone sized box attached to the underside that released 2 1/2 to 3 foot stilts which imbedded themselves into the ground while you still held the weapon. Something almost psy-fy'y that we won't be able to create in this century. Ya know, fun stuff.

Actually, if you're only talking 2.5-3ft, a pneumatic tripod could work. Attach it under the barrel and have connected by a hinge. They'll a latch under the muzzle so you don't have to hold it up. Then when you want to deploy it, unhook the latch and have air fill a pneumatic cylinder and have pneumatic pistons deploy the legs. Weight will be significant factor for the pneumatic systems cause if the gun is too heavy the air will be forced out. So with the proper wieght and pneumatic cylinders and pistons, it could work.

Wow, I hadn't even thought of pneumatics... I'm a spring, and electric motor kind'a guy. =3 Still, a device that size would end up being around the same size of a 4 pack of butter at smallest, and one that size wouldn't do very well with a gun that weighs this much. Still.... Pneumatics... Hydraulics... Stuff I hadn't thought of yet.

This weapon is absolutely intended to be used one-handed by a hulking, massive, ridiculously strong character. 40k is a good comparison!
Realism isn't really the goal in this case :D In fact, let's make it a 60 cal, haha. :D
