'31 Ford Hot Rod by Spex84 '31 Ford Hot Rod by Spex84
This project has been stalled for a while, so I threw some materials on it and did a render to get excited about it again!
I'm not super happy with the chrome and glass, but I'll see about doing some tutorials to try and fix it up.
The car was rendered in Mental Ray.
I have just picked up GTA IV: Episodes from Liberty City for PC, so soon the battle to get this car in-game will begin...

This looks pretty freaking great! I assume this is a realtime model?

Thanks! It's about 40k tris, and doesn't look as good in realtime as it does in renders, but yep, the intent was for it to be a realtime model.
I'm going to try and get it into GTA 4, and with a trainer/console I should be able to spawn just 1 at a time, so I don't have to worry too much about keeping the tri count really low (if the car was going to be spawning in traffic, I think I'd want it lower).
I still need to add some details (mirror, header flanges), fix some of the textures and a few modeling gaffes, and then build LODs and collision hulls for everything. Yeesh.
Looking forward to being able to drive it around, though!

Good luck! It is a lot of work to build a model for a game and there are sooooo many steps.

Thanks! I'm hoping to get it together within the next couple of months--there will probably be a lot of guess-and-test in trying to get the car set up properly for GTA, particularly with the pivots/rigging, materials, and collision. I am hoping to have a functional suspension on the car, and so far have no idea how to set that up in a way that GTA will accept. But those experiments will come later :P

Just noticed the geometry around the window/front door is all messed up, too. I'll have to sort that out...
