1929 Ford Rat Rod by Spex84 1929 Ford Rat Rod by Spex84
I build models as a break from fighting with artwork...

This is Revell's 1/24 scale 1929 A pickup, built fenderless. It's been channeled, with a suicide front end.

Scratchbuilt steering arm, floor, headers (made from sprue and paintbrush ferrules) and quarter-elliptical rear suspension. Grille and radiator have been shortened, and engine is a '56 Ford y-block with twin carbs and velocity stacks.

Gas tank is a tank from a 1/72 semi trailer kit.
Interior features a mexican-blanket over scratchbuilt seat-back, '34 Ford steering wheel, and a parts-box tach.
Painted with Testors and rattlecan primer.

Rust on the body is real rust--made it by mixing acrylic gel medium with steel filings and applying salt water.

pretty awesome work and impressive on a technical level as well, defiantly a drool worthy model.

don't think i have seen anyone do that kinda rust effect, i might have to give that a try myself at some point.....

Thanks! The rust is very similar to what Rockstar did with a few of their "jalopy" cars for GTA IV...it's a partially transparent "rust" texture with a halo of primer around the edges, letting the paint color from the "carcols" list show through. This way the car can change colors, but will always have the rust overlay.

Yeah, it's a cool break. I'm currently working on several more--a '29 rat with a '37 flattie, a '37 ford bobber PU, and a chopped/channeled deuce tudor with a stovebolt 6 and cutom-made tri-carb intake log. Good times! Dunno how I'm going to get 'em all finished though O.o

Thanks, lol. You don't want to know.
Even at 5 bucks/hour, this thing would be getting very, very expensive :D
It's a labor of love, I guess.

Thanks!
I don't really have any completed models to show, but I've got several on the table. Hopefully they'll be done within a couple of months.

Blurg, ok :) I've actually been working lately, and it's been taking up all my drawing time.
I may post that work eventually if I can get permission.
Otherwise...we'll see!
